Alycia Parks continues stellar indoor form with a comeback win over veteran Martic

Alycia Parks was not far from losing this match but the American was able to hang in there and smash Martic in the final set to advance to the quarter-final.

It was another excellent performance from Parks indoors in Europe. She finished the previous year with a strong run in similar conditions so it's hardly a surprise. She played better towards the end of the set because initially, Martic had Parks committing far too many mistakes. The first set finished 6-2 for Martic but the second was far more competitive.

We only saw only early break point for Parks but Martic held on. From there it was mostly both players holding their serve comfortable with a tiebreak following. Martic opened it better taking a 2-1 lead but sooner after Parks established control with her groundstrokes. She completed the tiebreak 7-3 behind her massive forehand and serve.

Things continued in her favour in the final set as she was fully in rhythm and Martic simply did not know what to do. Her game is generally quite vulnerable against strong hitters as she doesn't have too much power herself which is why clay is where she always excelled. In the end, Parks finished the job 6-2 to progress.
