Amanda Anisimova leads the WTA in unlikely statistic in 2022

Losing the first set could mean the end for several players, but a few have shown the mental strength to fight back and win the match, with Amanda Anisimova being at the top of the list in 2022.

The big-hitting American has had a stellar season, winning the Melbourne Summer Set 2 title in January. Furthermore, the 20-year old defeated then-defending champion Naomi Osaka in the third round at the Australian Open, and made the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time this summer.

Anisimova has shown great mental strength this season, and this is reflected in the fact that she has come back from a set down to win the match nine times in 2022, the most on the WTA tour. The next players on the list are World No.1 Iga Swiatek and Estonian veteran Kaia Kanepi, who have each rallied from a set down to secure victory seven times this season.

Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur sits at third place with six comeback victories, alongside Caroline Garcia, Belinda Bencic and Jelena Ostapenko. Meanwhile, Daria Kasatkina, Aryna Sabalenka and reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina are tied with five others at five comeback victories in 2022.

Anisimova is one of the several Americans who will be competing at this year's US Open, with the hopes of winning the title in front of their home crowd.
