Serving and returning are two key components in tennis. If you can get these skills right, then you are likely to have a huge advantage over your opponent. This can be the case for Iga Swiatek and Mirra Andreeva, who are the only two players who rank in both top 10 for serving and returning, with the Pole going one step better and being in the top five for each this season.
As tennis evolves, more and more people are pinpointing players serves, with power and accuracy hugely important. With players serves improving, you returning game also has to be on-point, if not then you will get blown away.

Rybakina the best server

Elena Rybakina sits top of this list, with her highly touted as one of the best servers on the WTA circuit. Her 482 aces have not been contested, with the power and accuracy she consistently produces when commencing points off a key skill when on court. She also has the highest percentage of points won on her first and second serve in the top 10, with her hold percentage being almost four percent better than second place with 81.4%, making it very tricky to get anything off her.
Following the Kazakhstani is Naomi Osaka. While Rybakina has the most aces, Osaka boasts a slightly better ace % at 9.5 compared to Rybakina's 9.4%. The world number one Aryna Sabalenka sits in third, with her serve an absolute weapon when on court, with her previously reaching speeds of over 130mph. Her rival Iga Swiatek can show off similar numbers to Sabalenka, with her improvement visible throughout the season. At Wimbledon, Swiatek added a sixth Grand Slam to her decorated collection. She put in the hours on the training court, and surprised many by the power and effectiveness it produced, especially in the latter stages when she blew anyone who dared to compete with her.
Karolina Muchova and Clara Tauson are positioned in fifth and sixth, with Australian Open champion Madison Keys holding the highest percentage of first serves which go in. However, she cannot convert as many of them into points won, being a factor in the American being seventh. Linda Noskova then leads the duo of Russians Mirra Andreeva and Ekaterina Alexandrova, thus completing the top 10.

Gauff and Swiatek among the best returners

While Coco Gauff's serve has been under heavy scrutiny since her triumph at Roland Garros, her returning skills has kept her in many matches. This has helped the world number three battle her way through tight matches. This sees her go first according to the return data, with her boasting the highest number of return points won by over a whole percentage from second in the list Swiatek.
The world number two's return game is seen as one of the best in the world, with the data backing that up. Only Gauff with 46% has a better break points won percentage than Swiatek, who wins 44.8%. This is one of the reasons why it is so hard to play against the pair. You give them an opportunity, they are likely going to take it, which is why they have won what they have.
Their closest rivals in this stat are Daria Kasatkina and Marie Bouzkova. The only other top 10 player to feature in this list is once again Andreeva, who similar to the serve is also ninth. To be on both of these lists while still only being 18-years-old shows how much talent and potential Andreeva holds. While it has been a difficult end to the year which culminated with her narrowly missing out on the WTA Finals by just a few points, she has proved that at the start of points, she is very dangerous to play against.
