Aryna Sabalenka is into the Quarter-Finals of the 2024
French Open after breezing past
Emma Navarro in the latest one sided match on Court Philippe Chatrier this afternoon.
Sabalenka sealed the win 6-3, 6-2 and will now face the winner of Mirra Andreeva and Varvara Gracheva in the Quarter-Finals. They start off shortly in the only WTA match left today. In the other part of this draw, Elena Rybakina found her way through.
She saw off Elina Svitolina earlier this morning 6-4, 6-3 and will now face Jasmine Paolini who saw off Elina Avanesyan. Coming from a set down, the Italian excelled once again in her breakout season. She stopped the charge of the Russian who also was superb last year in Paris.
But all eyes will be on the victors of those two ties. A lot is on the line with Rybakina v Sabalenka likely in the semi-finals. A meeting that will see the victor potentially play Iga Swiatek in the final who continued to get better.
For Sabalenka, she gets revenge after being defeated by Navarro at Indian Wells. The American admitted that her favoured surface is clay but she excelled more with her aggressive power play on the American hard courts more. She also sees her hopes of reaching the Olympic Games fade. She needed to reach the final to unseat Madison Keys.
Now she will have to wait until 2028 in order to make her Olympic Games debut albeit in LA. With the emergence of Danielle Collins, she has suddenly lost her spot in the team after being the outstanding name outside of Pegula and Gauff in American tennis for a year.
