Aryna Sabalenka shared an image on her Instagram story, revealing that she was having a drink after her defeat in the US Open final against Coco Gauff.
The Belarusian tennis sensation left Flushing Meadows as the best performer of the year in Grand Slam events, boasting a remarkable record of 23 wins and just 3 losses. Her impressive run included winning the Australian Open, reaching the final at the US Open, and making it to the semifinals in both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
Additionally, Sabalenka secured the coveted world No. 1 ranking after over a year of Iga Swiatek's dominance. However, her aspirations were met with disappointment as she suffered her second Grand Slam final defeat, this time against the 19-year-old American sensation, Coco Gauff.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, Sabalenka took to Instagram to share an image of herself enjoying a drink, accompanied by the caption: "Yes! I did have a drink last night (laughing emoji)."
In her post-US Open remarks, the Belarusian mentioned her plans to have a drink after the disappointing loss in the final but also expressed her continued motivation to chase more victories in the future. Despite the setback, Sabalenka remains determined and focused on her tennis journey.
"Yeah, that's why probably, that's why I'm not super depressed right now,” new world No. 1 said.
“I'm definitely going for a drink tonight if I'm allowed to say that. Yes, we are athletes, but sometimes we are drinking, but not much. But becoming a world No 1, it's a huge improvement, and achievement, actually. I'm really proud of myself that all those years I have been working so hard helped me to become World No 1,” Sabalenka said.
“But, you know, like, for me it's more about end the year as world No 1, not just like become World No 1 and then next week you're second. It's good so that I can say I have been World No 1, but I really would like to finish the year as world No 1. That's why I'm, like, still positive, and I'm still motivated
