In her most dominant career victory, world no. 1 Ashleigh Barty ousted Danka Kovinic 6-0, 6-0 in 44 minutes, making the strongest start at the home Major.
Ashleigh was the dominant figure from start to finish, losing ten points and marching over the finish line. Kovinic was never a serious contender against the world's leading player, spraying almost 30 unforced errors from overall 60 points and leaving the court sooner than she entered it. Barty was pleased with how she played, saying she always wants to improve, both as a human and a tennis player.
"I wanted to go out there and almost take the sting, take the pepper out of the match a little bit and get it on my terms as much as possible right from the get-go and make it feel like she had a real mountain to climb. I set the tone and was able to run away with it; that's the most important fact of this match. Scoreline-wise, it was my strongest start at Majors.
I think the processes and the things we go through before a match and trying to execute that are always a challenge. I felt that was spot on for me tonight, which was pleasing, rolling with the momentum throughout the whole match. I want to challenge myself to be the complete player and grow and develop every day, both as a human and a tennis player. I think, regardless of what happens on any given night, we wake up the next day and go back to work and try and get better again," Ashleigh Barty said.
