Ashleigh Barty has done it, the Australian player has won another trophy and this time it's the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati beating Teichmann 6-3 6-1.
A great week of tennis in North American has concluded with another trophy for Ashleigh Barty. The Australian player won her 2nd Masters in North America in 2021 after the Miami Masters earlier in the year. Barty bested Jil Teichman from Switzerland 6-3 6-4 in the Cincinnati final.
The start of the match featured a solid hold from Teichmann who shook off initial nerves and saved a break point. After that, she was able to keep up with Barty as both players were tied at 3-3 midway through the opening set. At that time Barty upped the intensity to break her opponent and close out the set with 6-3.
Strong tennis all round was shown by Barty who was impressive and never looked in trouble on her own serve. On her opponents serve she created timely chances to take the lead when it mattered the most. The start of the 2nd set featured a more impressive play for Barty who was slowly pulling away.
The Australian player took a 1-0 lead breaking Teichmann in the first game. She then added another break to take 3-0 after which Teichmann took a MTO to deal with a heavily bandaged foot. Barty simply continued serving very well and cruised to a 6-0 2nd set finish.
