Awesome Amanda Anisimova reaches maiden WTA 1000 final, takes down Emma Navarro at Canadian Open

Amanda Anisimova just last year was taking a break due to mental health and fatigue as her tennis world came crashing down. But the 22-year-old is now into her maiden WTA 1000 final as her resurgence continues at the Canadian Open.

The former World No.21 has had to rely on qualifiers over recent weeks due to her protected ranking going and fought to get into Washington last week where she elevated her ranking with a Quarter-Final showing. She then returned this week to face Caroline Dolehide who had vanquished her in Washington.

This time around, Anisimova proved to get revenge only days after their last clash. But she went on a roll from there. She defeated Daria Kasatkina and was a set up on Anna Kalinskaya before illness ended the run of the latter. Aryna Sabalenka defeated her last at the start of her comeback.

But it is now 6-2 in favour of the American who seems to have the game style to foil the Belarusian as she won through 6-4, 6-2. This continued as Emma Navarro was defeated albeit in three sets as the player that in reality was one of a few that took the trajectory of Anisimova was defeated.

Navarro has grinded through ITF's and WTA smaller tournaments over the past year so wasn't a teen prodigy like Anisimova. But while she has joined the top table, Anisimova has almost said don't forget about me. She proved that with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win.

She was emotional as she sealed the match. The crowd gave her a great reception as she showed exactly what this means to her. It has not been the easiest of returns for Anisimova since the turn of the year.

Her returning in the first place when it looked like tennis would be left behind was unbelievable enough. But she has since had injuries and not had form go her own way. It will all be worth it though for moments like this. She faces the winner of Diana Shnaider and Jessica Pegula tomorrow at finals day in Canada.
