Azarenka and Sabalenka set up Ostrava Open final with victories on Saturday

Victoria Azarenka and Aryna Sabalenka who their semifinal matches and set up the all-Belarussian final at Ostrava Open.

The first semifinal at the Ostrava Open was played earlier in the day between Azarenka and Sakkari. As many expected Victoria Azarenka proved victorious 6-1 6-3 in the 98 minutes match. From the start, it was clear Azarenka was the superior player as she was simply better in the rallies. She was also hitting her serve at a very good rate which made it easier. There some issues though as she had to save 4 break points in order to win the set but she did that too. All in all, it was a strong opening set from Azarenka.

Sakkari played a bad match, there is no question about that as her struggles continued early in the 2nd set as well. She went down 0-4 before she starting playing any better but the damage was already done. She managed to pull one back but that was it as Azarenka held her serve and even added another break in the final game of the match.

The 2nd semifinal match gave us a bit of an upset. Brady was favoured in the match but it was Sabalenka who played better. She broke Brady early to take a lead before breaking her once more to take an even bigger lead. The American managed to pull one back but it was too late as Aryna went on to capture the first set 6-4. She completely outplayed Brady on the American 2nd serve winning over half the points.

The 2nd set featured more or less the same. Aryna played a strong opening game, breaking Brady to take the lead. The recipe was similar, attack the 2nd serve as early and as often as you can. That worked and from there she mainly focused on holding her own serve. In the end Sabalenka finished off the match and booked a spot in the final.
