Victoria Azarenka has made a quick transition over to clay after being runner-up at the US Open only a few days ago with victory over a familiar foe in Venus Williams in the last first round match of the week at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia Rome.

Azarenka claimed victory 7-6, 6-2 to continue her resurgent summer so far with victory in just over two hours where she showed no signs of jet lag or fatigue; after travelling over from the United States and not deciding like some not to play.
Their last meeting came at the start of her return to form at the Top Seed Open in Lexington; which saw Venus come out on top before an 11-match winning streak began for the former World No.1.
In fact, it was also an interesting tie for the Belarusian who held a 6-2 Head to Head deficit heading into the tie; but she produced a brilliant display which included 22 winners to 18 unforced errors; and six breaks out of 14 break point opportunities.
Next up will be Sofia Kenin for Azarenka with the No.3 seed being hit and miss since her Australian Open win at the start of the season. She comes off the back of a Last 16 run at Flushing Meadows losing to Elise Mertens.
