Victoria Azarenka is a two-time finalist at the Madrid Open but found herself a set down and battling back to see off Tamara Zidansek to reach the third round.
This is where Marie Bouzkova or Ekaterina Alexandrova will await and for 'Vika', it was about her attitude and finding her way back in with a positive mindset despite not having a lot of match practice.
"I feel she started really, really well. The longer the match went on the better I was playing and the more comfortable I felt," said Azarenka post match.
"I think my attitude was really good today to try and find solutions and go for my shots, take control in my own hands. I don't have a lot of matches under my belt so those type of things are really important."
