Paula Badosa escaped against
Kaja Juvan 7-5 3-6 6-2 while
Karolina Pliskova crashed out against Jeanjean 2-6 2-6 at
Roland Garros.
It was a very solid day at the office for Paula Badosa despite quite some struggles. She admitted after round one that she was very nervous but none of that was on display in this match, at least not early. Badosa jumped out to a great start hitting the ball really well. She went up 5-2 but after that Juvan found her rhythm. The Slovenian player battled back to make it 5-5 but Badosa escaped 7-5.
The 2nd set was when Juvan thoroughly outplayed Badosa who was making a lot of bad choices and committing a lot of bad errors. Overall it was just a better played set by Juvan who flashed some of that level that got her to the final in Strasbourg last week. The Slovenian played won the 2nd with 6-3 but called a MTO between the sets due to a back issue.
That issue continued to bother her in the 3rd set even though she broke a very erratic Badosa in the first game of the 3rd set. The Spaniard was able to compose herself on time and break back. Juvan continued to struggle with her back as it did not allow her to move very well and she was late on many balls. The Spaniard cruised to a 6-2 finish.
Another seed was not so lucky as Karolina Pliskova sprayed a million errors against Jeanjean who played better. Lifted by the crowd and some inspiring play the 26-year old player from France was able to down Pliskova 6-2 6-2.
