Paula Badosa and Emma Raducanu sailed into the 2nd round of the US Open with strong victories on Tuesday.
Paula Badosa was the first one to step out and the Spanish player played a really great match against Van Uytvanch 6-4 6-3. Badosa, who was born in New York, started off slowly in the match falling behind 0-2 at the start of the match. But ever ready for a fight she came back not only to tie it up but to take a lead as well.
In the end, she closed out the opening set with 6-4 after some stellar play. Badosa was dominant from the baseline attacking the Belgian who simply did not have a way to respond to those attacks successfully.
Joining Badosa in the 2nd round will be Emma Raducanu who is continuing her emergence to the top of tennis. Raducanu had a bit of a slow start trying to adjust to Voegele and actually lost her serve first. She pulled it back immediately and that started a 5-0 run for Raducanu who won the opening set with 6-2.
She attacked Voegele on every 2nd serve winning 89 % of those points. In the 2nd set Voegele once again took the first break but lost it in the very next game. After several tries, Raducanu was finally able to break the Voegele taking the 5-3 lead. She would close it out in the next game after a fierce battle 6-2 6-3.
