The 2025 Indian Wells tournament will be lacking some star power, as reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova has announced her withdrawal from the event due to a lingering back injury.
Krejcikova won her maiden Grand Slam tournament at the 2021 French Open. The Czech star would eventually climb as high as World No.2 in the WTA rankings, before winning her second Major title at last year's Wimbledon Championships.
The 29-year old is yet to play on the WTA Tour this year. Krejcikova opted to skip the Australian Open in January, citing back issues. However, it appears she is far from recovery, as she announced she would be pulling out from the upcoming Indian Wells event, which kicks off on March 5.
"Barbora Krejcikova has withdrawn due to injury. Julia Grabher moves into the main draw," read a statement on the official Indian Wells Twitter account.
Although Krejcikova has not publicly commented on her latest development, the former doubles No.1 addressed the injury issue after pulling out from the Australian Open in January.
"I wanted to share a quick update regarding my withdrawal from the Australian Open," wrote Krejcikova on her social media accounts. "Unfortunately, my back injury, which troubled me at the end of last season, is still not fully healed.
“It’s disappointing because I love playing in Melbourne and have such great memories from reaching the quarter-finals last year ... I’m working hard to get back to full health. I can’t wait to see you on the court soon."
Congratulations on your amazing career, @Simona_Halep! 👏🏻

It’s been a privilege to play some good matches against you. You have been a great role model to look up to at the beginning of my career.
All the best to you in your next chapter ❤️ pic.twitter.com/QGn1TsgzE6
