Ashleigh Barty continues her journey in Flushing Meadows after winning 7-5, 6-3, while Martic defeated last year's semifinalist Sevastova 6-4, 6-3.
Both players won their matches quite easily in the 3rd round of the
US Open and did not let their opponents get into the match.
Petra Martic has a quite remarkable record of 26-12 this year and she confirmed her form against Sevastova.
Martic hesitated only in the first two games, that she lost, but immediately got the lost serve back and won 6-4 in the first set. In the second set, Petra broke opponent's serve twice and advanced to the last 16 at the US Open. Sevastova, after not defending points from last year's semi-finals, will drop to at least the 18th place on the WTA ranking.
Barty got a break already on the second serve of her opponent and kept it up to 4-3. At that time she lost her service, but then she managed to win 13 out of 15 points and won the first set with 7-5.
In the second set, she controlled the match and won it 6-3. Barty looks to be in good shape. The Australian will want to follow up on the Roland Garros title at the US Open. In the next round she will meet the winner of the match Ferro vs. Wang.
