Ashleigh Barty has won her first WTA title in her home country after defeating Dayana Yastremska in the final at the 2020 Adelaide International.
It was almost a flawless performance by Barty during the tournament. After
losing in the first round in Brisbane, she came much stronger to Adelaide. First, she defeated Pavlyuchenkova and
Vondrousova. In the semifinal,
she outplayed Danielle Collins and in the final match she took on
Dayana Yastremska.
Barty began the final in a perfect way for the home fans. After losing the first game, she managed to win 11 points in a row to gain an early 3-1 lead. She added one more break in the first set to ensure the 6-2 victory.
However, in the second set, Yastremska stepped up her game. She had 3 breakpoints and also converted one to level the score after Barty broke her in the first game. The score was close until the 11th game. The Aussie recorded a streak of 10 won points in a row once again to win the second set 7-5 and win the first title on her home soil.
