Both Australian Open women’s finalists, Ash Barty and Danielle Collins, have pulled out of Indian Wells. #1 Barty is also pulling out of Miami, too. Here’s her statement:
Ashleigh Barty will not make her return to action at BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells (9-20 March) or Miami Open (22 March - 3 April) after announcing her withdrawal from both tournaments.
Barty released a statement saying her body has not recovered fully from the Australian Open and that her body isn't at the necessary level in order to win either tournament so she has decided to withdraw.
Also Danielle Collins has pulled out of Indian Wells due to continuing injury with her status for Miami yet to be confirmed meaning both Australian Open finalists are potentially set to miss the dual WTA 1000 tournaments.
"Unfortunately my body has not recovered the way I'd hoped after the Australian Open and I have not been able to adequately prepare for Indian Wells and Miami," said Barty.
"I don't believe I am at the level necessary to win these events and as a result I have decided to withdraw from both tournaments. I love these events and am sad not to be there competing but getting my body right must be my focus."
