Barty, Wozniacki, Mertens all secure 3rd round spot in Melbourne

The 2020 Australian Open began in a very good style for world number 1, Ashleigh Barty. All of the home fans are cheering for her and she uses that to her advantage. After 1st round victory over Tsurenko where she needed to come back from being a set down, she now added an easy victory over Polona Hercog. The young Aussie dominated the match when she grabbed 6-1, 6-4 victory.

She will be joined in the second round by Elise Mertens, Alison Riske and Ekaterina Alexandrova who were even more dominant than Barty. They did not lose more than 4 games during their matches to secure the 3rd round spot.

Caroline Wozniacki is doing very well at her last Australian Open. She now advanced into the third round after defeating in-form playing Dayana Yastremska who was the runner-up in Adelaide a few days ago.

Other players that advanced into the third round included Elena Rybakina, Ons Jabeur, and Shuai Zhang. The fans in Australia are still on the edge of their seats as 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams is still about to enter the courts in Melbourne during day 3.
