Belinda Bencic has become a mother for the first time, giving birth to a baby girl on Tuesday as announced on both her Instagram and her partner and coach Martin Hromkovic.
Bencic endured a superb 2023 winning two titles and returned to the top 10. She won in Adelaide last January and reached the Last 16 of the Australian Open. She also won the Abu Dhabi Open to seal her eighth title against Liudmila Samsonova. But in November of last year, she announced that she was pregnant and has given birth in April.
She is also the current Olympic gold medallist, but won't return to defend her title in July of course in Paris barring a miraculous return to tennis. She has also given no indication whether or not she will follow in the footsteps of fellow mothers Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Elina Svitolina among others and return to tennis afterwards. Petra Kvitova will soon follow in her footsteps and is also currently pregnant.
"Bella, 23.4.2024. Our love," they wrote on social media with a picture of them holding their baby girl on her coaches account. Congratulations to Belinda and Martin on the new arrival.
