Belinda Bencic is through to the
Charleston Open final with a win over
Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4 6-3.
The Swiss player has picked up form in recent weeks reaching the semifinal in Miami and then following up that performance with this week. En route to the semifinal, she already bested some notable players such as Badosa in the previous rounds. Despite losing the only match against Alexandrova on clay in the past, she was very good today.
She was really comfortable on her own serve winning games rather easily. Her opponent was not as sharp as Bencic took a 3- 1 lead. Alexandrova was able to pull that break back after a lacklustre game by Bencic but the Swiss player never really lost control of the match. She got another break point at 5-4 and despite squandering it initially she found a way to get another one closing out the set with 6-4.
The 2nd set was even better by both players as Alexandrova actually got the first break point. It came in the first game of the set and while Bencic was able to save it, the Russian was still playing quite a bit better. Eventually Bencic found holes in her opponetns play and she took a break midway through the set 5-2. Things went smoothly after that with Bencic closing it out with 6-3.
