America’s tennis star
Sofia Kenin has revealed her fitness
update ahead of the Guadalajara Open semifinal.
The 24-year-old booked her place in the last-four of the
competition after beating Canada’s Leylah Annie Fernandez in the quarterfinal
with a score of 6,4, 6-7, 6-1.
During the match, Kenin had some discomfort which might concerned
her fans but she has provided a positive update.
“My quad is just a little bit tight,” she said. “Nothing
serious. I played a lot of matches so it's obviously normal that it's a bit
tight. I just wanted to put some tape just to protect it.”
Kenin is now set to face fellow American Caroline Dolehide
in the semifinal of the tournament on Friday.
The Moscow-born will be hoping to continue her winning run
in the competition, especially after having a below-par 2023.
More importantly, a victory in the competition will also see her rankings improve which will pave way for an easier qualification in the upcoming tournaments.
Kenin, who struggled with fitness concerns in the recent
past, played in all four Grand Slams this year but failed to play in the fourth
round or beyond in any of the mega-events.
Her best outing came in Wimbledon where she was knocked out
from the third round after losing to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in straight sets
with a score of 7-6, 6-2.
