Bianca Andreescu being on the court in the first place after her horrific injury in Miami only weeks ago was somewhat of a minor miracle but she will feel aggrieved after losing to Wang Xiyu late on Friday night at the
Madrid Open 6-3, 6-7, 2-6.
Andreescu was a set up looking good sealing the opener 6-3 and went 3-1 up in the second but was finally broken at 3-2 with the Chinese ace not letting her serve go from there with strong service holds.
She made it 3-3 only for Andreescu to make it 4-3 letting out a trademark roar. It was 5-4 to Andreescu as she went within one but again Wang held firm and a tiebreak was forced.
A shot that went long from Andreescu saw Wang get her first breakthrough at 3-2. Andreescu levelled later at 4-4 but Wang took the mini-break straight back and sealed the set from there.
In the final set, it was one way traffic for Wang who sealed it 6-2. Despite an early defeat, there is a lot to like for Andreescu going into Rome.
