Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu shared an unfortunate health update after suffering from appendicitis in recent days. The Canadian had hoped to return to the court after four months, but this health issue forces her to extend her break.
Her last tournament was back at the Japan Open in October 2024, where she suffered a heavy defeat against Katie Boulter, 2-6, 1-6. After that, she ended her season due to a recurring back injury that has troubled her for years.
Recently, Andreescu shared a health update on social media after withdrawing from the Australian Open. The 2019 US Open champion explained that while preparing for the Merida Open, she suffered from appendicitis, which will keep her out of the Tour for a while longer.
"Hey everyone. Quick life update—training was going so well, and I was very excited for the @wtameridaopen to be my first tournament of the 2025 season. However, I unexpectedly started experiencing some sharp pain in my stomach, which led to an emergency appendectomy," Bianca Andreescu revealed.

"The surgery went smoothly, and I'm on the road to recovery. My plan is to be back on the court for the clay season, stronger than ever. Thanks so much for all your support—can't wait to get back to competing!" she added.
The former world No. 4 had a wildcard for Merida but will have to wait for her return. She will also miss the Sunshine Double, ruling her out of Indian Wells and the Miami Open. Based on previous seasons, Andreescu could return at the WTA 500 Stuttgart Open in mid-April or later at the Madrid Open.
