Bouchard set for return at Citi Open Washington, handed wildcard alongside Nishikori

Eugenie Bouchard will make her return to action seemingly next month on the comeback trail towards the US Open taking a wildcard and not using protected ranking as a result to enter the Citi Open in Washington.

The 28-year-old former Wimbledon finalist was due to return during both Roland Garros and Wimbledon but after shoulder surgery, she wasn't ready for the former and didn't want to use her ranking for the latter due to the lack of ranking points on offer saying it made no sense.

But the plan was to use this protected ranking during upcoming Grand Slams with the popular Canadian set to play between July 30 - August 7, 2022 in DC as the first announced return date.

She has received a wildcard alongside another player on the comeback trail in Kei Nishikori with Victoria Azarenka, Jessica Pegula, Alex de Minaur and Grigor Dimitrov also entered as general new entries.
