America’s
Christopher Eubanks has jokingly reminded young
tennis star
Coco Gauff about his contribution to her first victory at a Grand
Slam.
Gauff booked her place in the last four of the
US Open after
defeating Latvia’s Jeļena Ostapenko in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-2
on Tuesday.
Eubanks, while responding to a tweet, reminded the
20-year-old how he played a huge role in securing her first win at a major
tournament.
Eubanks and Gauff played together in the mixed doubles category
in the US Open in 2018 where they managed to defeat Chan Hao-ching and Henri
Kontinen in the first round with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
Both players had a very contrasting outing in the fourth
and final Grand Slam of the year which is now moving towards its conclusion.
While Gauff is now just one win away from becoming the
youngest to reach the final of the US Open since Serena Willaims did in 1999, Eubanks
lost in the second round to France’s Benjamin Bonzi with a score of 6-7, 2-6,
6-2, 7-6.
Gauff will now face Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova in the
last-four clash of the mega-event for a spot in the all-important finale.
