America’s young tennis star
Ben Shelton is set to make his
way into the top 20 players in the ATP rankings.
The 20-year-old is one of the most highly-rated young
players in the circuit and has showcased his talent in the ongoing
US Open 2023
as well.
Shelton booked his place in the semifinal of the fourth and
final Grand Slam of the year after defeating fellow American Frances Tiafoe
6-2, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 on Tuesday.
It will be the first appearance of the Atlanta born in the semifinal
of any major tournament and while doing so, he became the youngest American to achieve
that feat since Michael Chang in 1992.
With that performance, Shelton is now set to enter the top 20
players in the ATP rankings and next week, he will be making his debut as a
part of the 20 best players on the planet.
Shelton will be hoping to improve those rankings even further
as he is now just two wins away from winning his first Grand Slam.
He is now set to face the 23-time Grand Slam winner Serbia’s
legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic in the last-four clash on Friday.
