Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki has apparently pulled out of the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam of the year is set to begin in less than 10 days time where players from all over the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
One of the big-name players who will not feature in the first Grand Slam of the year in 2025 will be former world number one Wozniacki. The 34-year-old, who is currently ranked 70 in the WTA rankings, managed to claim a direct entry into the competition, unlike last year, when she was awarded a wildcard entry. However, it has been reported that Wozniacki will not feature in the competition. It is not clear why the Odense-born will not take part in any competition. World number 101, Yuliia Starodubtseva, has received direct entry into the main round in her absence.
Wozniacki has not been featured in any competition, not even leading up to the 2025 season. Her last appearance was in the US Open, where she was knocked out after losing in the fourth round to Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Wozniacki, who returned to the court in 2023 after spending more than two years on the sidelines, played 29 matches in 2024, where she won 16 and suffered defeats on 13 occasions. Her best performance in the calendar year came at Indian Wells, where her journey ended after losing in the quarterfinal to former world number one Poland’s Iga Swiatek.
She had to retire from the event with a final score of 6-4, 1-0. Wozniacki has an impressive record while playing at the Australian Open. It remains the only Grand Slam where she lifted the title. Her only Australian Open title came in 2018, where she defeated the former world number one Simona Halep in the final with a score of 7–6(7–2), 3–6, 6–4.
