Chennai Open makes return to WTA calendar, set to take place at the end of the 2025 season

The packed 2025 WTA season will see a familiar event return by the year's end, as the Chennai Open will be making it's return to the calendar.
A WTA 250 event, the Chennai Open will kick off on October 27, 2025, a few weeks before the WTA Finals. The hard court tournament will feature 32 players in the singles field and a doubles draw with 16 teams.

Chennai Open making return after short hiatus

Hosted in Chennai, India, the WTA 250 event last took place in 2022. Rising Czech tennis star Linda Fruhvirtova rallied from a set down to defeat third seeded Polish player Magda Linette, scoring an impressive 4-6 6-3 6-4 comeback victory to lift her maiden WTA main draw title.
The doubles event saw the team of Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani defeat the duo of Anna Blinkova and Natela Dzalamidze, cruising to an easy 6-1 6-2 victory. As of now, no participants have been announced for this year's edition.
A prize pool of $251,750 has been allocated to the event, with the WTA aiming to increase it's visibility in the world of sports. The 2025 WTA season has featured several surprise winners thus far, as there have already been 20 different winners at WTA 250, 500, 1000 and Grand Slam events this year.
