Coco Gauff nearly threw away a 'won' tiebreak in the first set to win against Aleksandra Krunic 7-6(11) 6-4.
Coco Gauff entered the Roland Garros in great form following a title run in Parma but her win against Krunic almost never came to be. It was a very tight first set where Gauff was the first one to lose her service despite forcing numerous break points on the Serbians serve.
Gauff had plenty of chances but committed a lot of costly errors which forced her to go to the tiebreak to win the match. In the tiebreak, she was up 5-1 and seemed to be cruising but Krunic came back to force a very dramatic finish.
It was Gauff who emerged on top winning a spectacular tiebreak with 13-11. The 2nd set was much easier for Gauff although it was far from perfect. The American jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Krunic pulled once back. Determined not to let the victory slip away Gauff composed herself and served it out with 6-4.
A good win for Gauff who moves despite a less than impressive showing. Her next match will be in doubles with Venus Williams.
