Tennis coach Rick Macci posted believes that both America’s Coco Gauff and legendary Serena Williams are ‘gems cut from the same stone’.
The 19-year-old is often regarded as the most highly-rated player currently playing in the women’s singles category. On the other hand, Serena is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of women’s tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 23 Grand Slam titles in her illustrious career.
Macci, in a post on his official account on social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — compared both players and suggested that they are cut from the stones.
"@CocoGauff is an Olympic Sprinter with a racquet in her hand. @serenawilliams is an Olympic Champion with a racquet in her hand. Both GEMS cut from the same stone,” he wrote.
Gauff lived up to the hype in 2023 where she lifted her maiden Grand Slam title as she defeated the current world number two Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the US Open with a score of 2–6, 6–3, 6–2.

Gauff is having an impressive time on the court in the ongoing Australian Open 2024 where she has already booked her place in the quarterfinal after beating Poland’s Magdalena Frech with a score of 6-1, 6-2. She will next face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk on Tuesday.
