The American player entered this matchup as a huge favourite and for the most part, she played like it. 81 minutes took her to secure the 3rd round with a comfortable straight-sets win. Despite the score being quite comfortable, it was not an easy match. Buzarnescu is known as a great fighter and she proved it once more.
The problem for the Romanian was winning points on her own serve. Gauff is so quick around the court and covers the court so well that you simply can't finish off points easily. She makes you work for every point and the Romanian struggled with that a lot. The opening set featured two breaks for Gauff who did not allow a single break point on her own serve.
She also added 4 aces along with 7 winners. The opponent tried to outhit Gauff but it did not work at all as Buzarnescu committed 13 errors to only 4 winners. A similar script in the 2nd set but this time around Mihale had more success. It took Gauff some time to finally get to a break point but once she did, she cruised. 6-3 was the score in the final set for the American who moves on.
