America’s young tennis star
Coco Gauff has stated that she remains
optimistic to turn things around despite suffering a shocking defeat in the
fourth round of the
US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is
moving towards business end where players from all over the world are
participating to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
Gauff, who is regarded as one of the best women’s tennis players in the singles category in the world, also participated in the US Open, where her journey came to an end on Sunday. The 20-year-old suffered a defeat
to fellow countrywoman
Emma Navarro with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
The defeat was a disappointing one as not only it extended her
poor run of form but also because Gauff was defending her title this year in
New York. Talking after the match, the current world number three admitted that
things did not go as planned in the mega-event. However, the one-time Grand
Slam winner also remained optimistic of turning things around in the near
future.
"So many people want to be in the fourth round. So many
people want to get to the Olympics. So many people want to be the flag bearer.
It's a matter of perspective. Obviously, because I want to reach a different
level. It's disappointing, but I'm not going to beat myself up and say, like,
that was so bad. Yeah, I expect better, but it finally happened and I know I
can turn it around. I guess for me, it's not the summer that I would have liked
to have. I feel like there's, like, 70 other players in the draw that would
like to have the summer that I had, even though it's probably the summer that
I've done the least well at this time of year," she analyzed.
