America’s young tennis star Coco Gauff has seen his
incredible journey coming to an end in the Indian Wells. The 20-year-old is often
regarded as one of the most highly-rated players currently playing in the women’s
singles category.
Gauff’s had an incredible run on the US courts which finally
came to an end as she lost in the semifinal at the Indian Wells. She ended up
on the losing side to Greece’s Maria Sakkari with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.
That result ended Gauff’s incredible run of 20 wins on the US
courts. The run included her incredible triumph at the US Open in 2023 where
she defeated the current world number two Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in the final
with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Before the US Open, Gauff also won the Cincinnati Open after
defeating the Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova in the final in straight sets
with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
The last defeat for the Florida-born before Friday came in
the Canadian Open against Jessica Pegula who emerged victorious with a score of
6-2, 5-7, 7-5.
The worrying concern
for Gauff will be it was her second defeat in the semifinal of an event in 2024.
She previously lost in the last-four clash of the Australian Open to Sabalenka with
a score of 7-6, 6-4.
