Coco Gauff finally played a superb match in 2022 with the American taking down
Paula Badosa for the
Qatar Open quarterfinals.
The American displayed wonky form this year with early exits in most events she played. Her only major run came in Adelaide where she reached the semifinal. Now, she is in the Qatar Open quarterfinal after a superb win over Paula Badosa. The start of the match indicated that we might see a great display by Gauff who broke the Spaniard in the first game.
She took a 3-0 lead after that but Badosa was able to get back into the match by pulling one of those breaks back. In the end, it didn't matter much as Gauff continued applying pressure and she finished off the first set with 6-2. Badosa did not serve well and she really struggled on her 2nd serve as Gauff was superb on return.
The American was able to win her service games despite committing 3 double faults because Badosa was a bit off. The Spaniard served better in the 2nd set but she still struggled on her 2nd serve as Gauff applied a lot of pressure on her. The American was even more aggressive in the 2nd set and it worked. She hit 4 aces, committed 4 double faults but also won 81% of her 1st serve rallies.
She finished off teh match with 6-3 in the 2nd set for the great win and the quarterfinals spot.
