Coco Gauff to Roland Garros round 4 over Kanepi

Coco Gauff battled past a very solid Kaia Kanepi to advance to the 4th round of Roland Garros for the 2nd year in row 6-3 6-4.

Coco Gauff is a very strong clay player and she is showing it once more this year. The American is super athletic and quick around the court which makes it very hard to counter her on this surface. She is on every ball and if her groundstrokes are clean you are in trouble. Kanepi certainly had her own issues with Gauff as she bowed down in two sets.

Gauff opened the match slow which is not unusual. She dropped her serve in the opening game but broke back immediately. She broke Kanepi once more for the 3-1 lead and then once more for the 5-1 lead. Kanepi simply could not break down Gauff who was getting every ball back and forcing her opponent to overhit resulting in errors.

Typical for her, she lost her serve when serving for the set but she escaped with 6-3. She jumped out to another early lead in the 2nd set with 2-0 but also gave it back not long after that. She continued battling and applying pressure on her opponent eventually getting a break and finishing it off with 6-4. A good win for Gauff who moves to the 4th round of the French Open.
