The third Grand Slam of the year, Wimbledon 2025, is set to begin on June 30 officially. The draws were made on Saturday. For tennis fans, some mouthwatering contests will start from the third round onwards.
The first of those contests could feature the world number one Aryna Sabalenka taking on McCartney Kessler from America. Those two players have only played each other once, which was in the round of 64 of the Indian Wells earlier this year, where Sabalenka emerged victorious.
The reigning French Open champion Coco Gauff can face her fellow countrywoman and former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin in round three at Wimbledon this year. Both players have faced each other on five occasions, with Gauff holding a slight edge, having won three of the matches. Their most recent meeting took place in the round of 64 of the Miami Open this year, where Gauff came out on top in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-0.
Last year’s runner-up, Jasmine Paolini, is in line to face the Czech Republic’s young sensation Linda Noskova in the round of 32. The 20-year-old is currently taking part in the Homburg Open, where she will face America’s Jessica Pegula in the semifinal later on Saturday (today). If that meeting takes place, it will be the first time these players have faced off.
World number nine Paula Badosa might get a golden opportunity to take revenge for last year’s defeat at Wimbledon as she could face Donna Vekic of Croatia in the third round of the mega-event. The players faced each other in the fourth round at Wimbledon last year, which was their only meeting in professional tennis. In that contest, Vekic won in three sets with a score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
Defending champion Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova might get the toughest draw in the third round, as her likely opening will be America’s Emma Navarro. The two players have never faced each other in a professional tennis match.
