Garbine Muguruza has not played since the Indian Wells Masters because of injury but she will make her return at the
Madrid Open.
The Spaniard is a very strong player but she never achieved much success in Madrid. She missed it last year due to an injury and her best result came in 2018 when she reached the 3rd round. Her other appearances mainly ended in the 2nd round. Now ahead of her return she said:
“I have come back fresh and eager to start. I would love to put out my best tennis in Madrid and every year I come with that mentality. I have worked with the Indiba, contrasts of cold and heat. A lot of work with the physiotherapist because he had a problem with the tendon and had to reduce inflammation. It is a normal problem among tennis players, but it requires a period of rest. My body needed it."
Similar to her compatriot Badosa, Muguruza too feels a certain pressure playing in Madrid:
"I have always felt pressure on me in Madrid because I consider it to be a very important tournament for me. It is the only tournament we have in Spain”
