The return to tennis of Carla Suarez Navarro after a cancer diagnosis last year has been a truly inspirational one with many tennis players positively speaking on the matter. The Spanish player earned the respect of many when she return to tennis to end her career on the court the way she intended to.
In the 1st round US Open match, she faced native Danielle Collins who caught fire a few weeks ago. The fire is still burning strong as Collins had no issues in defeating Suarez Navarro in straight sets. The Spanish player is obviously far from her best and not in the best game shape but she fought as much as she could.
She will retire after this match and it was a fitting end for a player whom many admired through her hardships in the past 24 months. The crowd was happy to see her and Suarez Navarro was glad to end in front of fans. Collins was simply too good for Navarro who could do very little against the motivated and in-form American.
