Wimbledon finalist
Karolina Pliskova will not have her coach by her side during the event as he was denied entry into the country.
Pliskova will be guided by compatriot Leos Friedl after her coach Sascha Bajin was not able to enter the country. Pliskova started working with Bajin at the end of 2020 with the coach previously working with Naomi Osaka as well as Serena Williams. Bajin was denied entry after spending too much time in the US during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pliskova's manager released a statement on the matter saying:
“Sascha stayed in the US longer than he had during the covid pandemic last year. He has a house in Florida and he didn’t want to travel that much. This year, however, he still did not receive a visa because of that. We tried to work intensively on it, but to this day we have not been able to solve it."
Pliskova is no stranger to
US Open success having reached the final five years ago losing in the final to Angelique Kerber. The Czech player will face Caty McNally in the 1st round.
