Stosur eased through in a 6-2, 6-4 victory in 78 minutes to move through to the second round; as a result she has arrested some poor form this year and the Australian showed some of the form that carried her up to higher echelons of the rankings.
Martincova who has impressed as of late struggled against Stosur as her unforced error count went up but as she got a chance, it was too little too late.
Stosur wrapped up the first set losing just four points in her first four service games. She turned the screw and broke straight away to start the second set and despite Martincova building some momentum, Stosur didn't falter and wrapped up the tie.
Next up will be Bernarda Pera who shocked Ons Jabeur earlier on Monday in a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Aleksandra Krunic and Viktorija Golubic also came through comfortably.
Whilst Marie Bouzkova had to work hard to see off Xun Fang-Ying saving four consecutive match points in a tiebreaker before winning 6-3, 2-6, 7-6.
