Pending a drastic increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the United States, the USTA has confirmed that this year's US Open will take place.
Several tennis professionals have spoken out regarding the event being held in the midst of the pandemic. WTA World No.2
Simona Halep has
declined to compete this year, while 6-time champion
Serena Williams is
all-in.
The event will not be lacking star-power as reigning champion
Bianca Andreescu has also committed to participating at the event. The Canadian has been
out of action since the end of the 2019 season due to injury. However, she is feeling healthy enough to partake at the event that saw her win her first Grand Slam trophy.
"The
US Open will always hold a very special place in my heart." Andreescu said in an Instagram post. "Arthur Ashe is where I won my first grand slam title and I treasure so many unforgettable moments at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center."
The World No.6 added that she trusts the USTA has come up with the best plan to ensure the safety of everyone involved with the event. Furthermore, she hopes to bring tennis back to the millions of fans across the globe during these trying times.
