American tennis star
Sloane Stephens has expressed
frustration about her rankings not being improved despite playing all year.
The 31-year-old is currently ranked 41 in the women’s
singles category and is currently taking part in the WTA 1000 event in the Miami
Open.
Stephens was recently quoted in a report where she expressed
frustration that her rankings do not improve despite playing all over the
year.
“Yes, I would love to be back in the top 20, and like I was
telling my coach the other day, I was like, ‘You know my ranking hasn’t moved
in like a year.’ I’m like, ‘Who are these people playing these matches, and
where are they getting these points from?,” she said.
“Like, what’s happening? ‘Am I not playing that much? Do I
need to travel some more? Like, what do I need to do?’ I think that he was
like, ‘Sh*t, I don’t know.”
Stephens has already booked her place in the round of 64 after
defeating Angelique Kerber in the first round in straight sets with a score of
6-2, 6-3.
She will now face Sorana Cirstea of Romania in the second
round on Friday. It will be the fifth meeting between the two. In the previous four
meetings, both players ended up winning on two occasions each.
