The groups have been confirmed and the draw made ahead of the 2023 WTA Finals which will begin on October 29 in Cancun, Mexico.
As ever, the WTA Finals gala took place prior to the draw ceremony with the top eight players and the doubles stars dressing up led by World No.1, Aryna Sabalenka.
Aiming to stop her will be Iga Swiatek who could also reclaim the World No.1 spot in the WTA season-ender. But as ever, it is a super competitive field.
After a long and windy gala in Mexico, Maria Sakkari and Jessica Pegula were drawn first. They were joined by Elena Rybakina and finally Aryna Sabalenka in a group of death.
While Marketa Vondrousova will face Ons Jabeur for the first time since the heartbreak at Wimbledon for the latter. Coco Gauff then joined them in the Chetumal Group. Iga Swiatek joined that trio in the second group.
Away from the draw, a lot of discourse has surrounded the conditions in Cancun. They will only be allowed onto the stadium court earliest Saturday, with many of the headlines garnered by the developing chaos.
Karolina Muchova was the main withdrawal, with doubts surrounding Jabeur and Vondrousova also but Sakkari did not play the WTA Elite Trophy with the Roland Garros finalist out since the US Open and in the country where she finally broke her singles duck, she could be the home favourite.
Caroline Garcia continued the run of players to not return to defend her title after a poor year since then after Garbine Muguruza similarly who has now fallen off the tour won the year before and didn't back it up.
