The draw has been confirmed ahead of Upper Austria Ladies Linz which will take place between January 27 - February 2, 2025 and is a WTA 500 tournament.

It attracts top names including Karolina Muchova who is top seed and will face either Lulu Sun or a qualifier in the second round. Elina Svitolina somewhat surprisingly given she played late in Australia will also play still. She could face Anna Blinkova in the second round.

Maria Sakkari will face either Jessica Bouzas Maneiro who conquered her at the United Cup or Viktoriya Tomova. Other top names include former champion Anastasia Potapova as well as Ekaterina Alexandrova, Dayana Yastremska and Elina Avanesyan. Eva Lys also enters as a wildcard after her incredible Australian Open lucky loser run.

She could face either Katerina Siniakova who is still in Australia having won the women's doubles title with Taylor Townsend or Elina Avanesyan in the second round if she gets past a qualifier.

Jelena Ostapenko will drop out of the top 30 as she will not defend the title she won 12 months ago. First organised in 1987, the tournament has grown into a staple event on the indoor hardcourt circuit, traditionally taking place in the autumn.

Known for its intimate setting and strong competition, it has attracted top players over the years, including past champions such as Lindsay Davenport, Justine Henin, and Petra Kvitová. The event has undergone various upgrades, including its venue and prize money, and continues to be a key fixture in showcasing both rising stars and established champions in women’s tennis.

But nowadays it has been organised in the post Australian Open calendar. It has shifted and has gained WTA 500 status as a result albeit perhaps with a pretty open field outside of the big names. Muchova will be favourite though to lift the title given her relative form and prowess. The Czech lost to Naomi Osaka in Melbourne but otherwise has been in superb form since her return.
