The draw has been completed ahead of the 2024 Japan Open which begins the stint of the WTA in the country during the Asian hard court swing between 14-20 October.
Top seed is Magdalena Frech, but the tournament is headlined by Canadian duo Bianca Andreescu and Leylah Fernandez.
Last year, the 12th edition took place in September and was won by Ashlyn Krueger. She defeated Zhu Lin 6-3, 7-6 in the final to claim the victory. It was the first edition of the tournament to be held since 2019 when it was held in Hiroshima. It now finds a home in Osaka.
The 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while the 2022 edition was cancelled due to financial reasons. Andreescu will take on Greet Minnen in what is her first action since an early loss again to Jasmine Paolini at the US Open. Thankfully the Italian won't be at this tournament but after a bright start to her return to the sport after injury, she has slightly tailed off.
While Fernandez has barely won matches in the last few months. She faces off against Clara Tauson in a tough opener with Andreescu, Harriet Dart, Diane Parry and Erika Andreeva all clustered into that bottom section.
Katie Volynets, Marie Bouzkova headline the section above as well as Veronika Kudermetova and Lucia Bronzetti. While Ashlyn Krueger attempting to defend her title could lose first round as she faces Elina Avanesyan. Frech as top seed faces Camila Osorio, while Sofia Kenin and Elisabetta Cocciaretto also loom.
