Draw Wuhan Open 2024 headlined by Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini and Coco Gauff

The draw has been made ahead of the 2024 Wuhan Open which is due to take place between October 5-13 2024 and is the final WTA 1000 of the season headlined by Aryna Sabalenka.

Sabalenka has won the last two editions with the tournament returning to the calendar for the first time since 2019. Since then of course the Belarusian has become a huge force in women's tennis after being known for so long solely for her prowess in this tournament.

It is in conditions that suit her power play and after losing to Karolina Muchova again in Beijing, she will hope to be back to winning ways ahead of the WTA Finals. She faces either Alexandra Eala or Katerina Siniakova in the second round. Donna Vekic is the main seed in her section and faces Elise Mertens.

Jessica Pegula faces either Katie Volynets or Anastasia Potapova and is second seed this week. Paula Badosa or Ajla Tomljanovic lurk for her in the third round. Jasmine Paolini received a bye and faces Yue Yuan or a qualifier and then could face Mirra Andreeva. Karolina Muchova could take on either Leylah Fernandez or Diana Shnaider. Even in winning the title this weekend, it wouldn't change her seeding so she still lurks as a dangerous unseeded player.

Qinwen Zheng continues her prowess on home soil and faces Jaqueline Cristian or a qualifier. Marta Kostyuk could face Amanda Anisimova with Peyton Stearns and Anna Kalinskaya getting their redo after the former had to withdraw with injury in Beijing. They play in the first round.

Absence wise, Iga Swiatek withdrew yesterday. She cited the coaching change she is currently undergoing and so her hunt continues likely in time for the WTA Finals. Elena Rybakina is another top name who has shirked playing for this section of the season due to injury. The same can be said for Maria Sakkari.
