World number one Iga Swiatek and Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka
are set to be involved in an intense battle to secure the top spot in the WTA ranking.
The two have been battling for the top spot for a long where
the Polish tennis star has led the way for most of the time.
As per the latest information, both players might be tied
with 8,715 points after the end of the WTA event in Dubai. Therefore, it cannot
be ruled out that there will be more than one player leading the WTA ranking charts
in the near future.
Swiatek had an extremely disappointing time during the recently
concluded Australian Open where she ended up crashing out after losing to the
Czech Republic’s Linda Noskova with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
On the other hand, Sabalenka had a fabulous time on the
court during the first Grand Slam of the year where she ended up lifting the
title for the second consecutive year, this time after defeating China’s Qinwen
Zheng in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday.
While doing so, the current world number two became only the
fifth player in the women’s singles category since 2000 to win the Australian
Open without dropping a set.
