Comedian
Elliot Loney added a touch of humor to the 2024
Australian Open with his
entertaining impersonations of various tennis personalities. The Australian
impersonator, well-known for his comedic talents, graced the first Grand Slam
of the year, delivering amusing impressions of
Rafael Nadal,
Nick Kyrgios, Jim
Courier,
Dominic Thiem, and the Australian legend
Rod Laver.
Loney,
recognized as one of Australia's prominent comedians, showcased his impressive
repertoire of tennis player impersonations. Among his frequently performed acts
is the hilarious imitation of Rafael Nadal, capturing the Spanish player's
distinctive accent when speaking in English.
“I have the
injury at the moment, but I cannot wait to go to Mallorca, get on the boat, and
Santan the G-string. Get on the boat and gonna be very fantastic And the G-string.”
-
Rafa,
is that your underwear of choice?
"Hundred
percent. You know, I always have the wedgie, always picking, always picking the
wedgie”
Another
target of the impersonations was the legendary Australian tennis icon Rod
Laver, whose name graces the main stadium of the tournament: the "Rod
Laver Arena."
“I've been
playing tennis for a very long time. My arena is right there I've done some
beautiful things in tennis. It's a fantastic sport”
Additionally,
I performed a Nick Kyrgios impersonation in which I made light-hearted jokes
about his injury and a potential retirement:
“You know,
I'm just getting out there bro.”
-
You’re
not gonna retire or anything, are you?
“Um, I
don't know bro. It's always a possibility bro. Like, I just want to go to the
Bahamas and sit at my a** bro”
One of the
impersonations that garnered the most laughs from fans was that of the former
world No. 1 and four-time Grand Slam champion,
Jim Courier:
“Paul
Stefanovak right about now. I mean this guy's unbelievable. Your physique right
about now, your shoulders, your biceps, yout chest Yeah, yeah, yeah.”
