Elena Rybakina played a really great match to take down
Marketa Vondrousova 6-3 6-3 and advance to the next round of the
Rome Open.
Rybakina has been playing okay on clay so far though her level didn't inspire anyone. She's looking a bit better in Rome with this win quite a statement one. Vondrousova has been really strong so far on clay and she's a former Roland Garros finalist. The match itself was quite straightforward in two sets with Rybakina largely having no issues.
Vondrousova had her chances in this one as she had six break points but used only one. She didn't serve that well which gave Rybakina a chance to break her a couple of times and she did it twice. The rallies were the part of the game where she did most of her damage as Vondrousova was simply not playing that well.
The second set featured both playing similarly as they were good on the first serve but struggled on the second set. The crucial part for Rybakina was that she served better which gave her more rallies after her first serve and most of those were won. If she had served on the level of Vondrousova then she might have faced quite a bit more problems.
In the end it was enough for a 6-3 6-3 win for Rybakina.
