Iga Swiatek has dispelled the notion of being a clay court specialist revealing that her goal is to be equally good on all surfaces to ensure the most success.
While Swiatek is pretty good on all surfaces it's quite obvious that she feels best on clay though some types of clay. The Madrid Open is probably one of the rare clay events where she doesn't enjoy the conditions as much as the quick balls negate one of her biggest strengths - movement. On slower courts where the ball doesn't fly as fast, Swiatek is able to position herself spectacularly and remain the aggressor in most rallies.
She recently dispelled the notion of being a clay court specialist by using the example of Rafael Nadal and how he won many events away from the surface. Just like him, Swiatek aims to be good on all surfaces. When it comes to an affinity to a certain surface, she said this:
“Rafa, he's called clay court specialist, but he won so many tournaments on hard court & grass. The goal is to be good everywhere..saying the player feels more comfortable on clay, I think that's the most proper thing to say”

Iga Swiatek on people calling Nadal a clay specialist: “Rafa, he's called clay court specialist, but he won so many tournaments on hard court & grass. The goal is to be good everywhere..saying the player feels more comfortable on clay, I think that's the most proper thing to say”
